I developed these gloves to be period accurate to the late 1620’s in order to be worn and used at Plimoth Patuxet Museums as a part of their living history performances. The pattern was drafted based on extant gloves from the period and modified to fit the performer, featuring elongated fingers and asymmetric fourchettes to accent that even more. Detailing was based on other contemporary to the period examples, taking into consideration class and materials that would have been available. From there, the pattern was cut out of a pigskin leather and handstitched at 16 stitches per inch following period examples. Multiple trims and lace were handstitched together and then slip stitched to the gloves themselves.
